Dr Wilcox has been doing reflux and weight loss surgery in the Colorado Springs area since 2001. Having grown up in the area before attending the University of Colorado Medical School and completing his surgical residency in Seattle at the Virginia Mason Medical Center, he returned to the area while serving in the Air Force with duty at Fort Carson and stayed in the area after ending his time in service.
Dr Wilcox has continually improved his practice and adopted advanced minimally invasive techniques including robotic gastric bypass and para-esophageal hernia repair. He and his Nurse Practitioner, Julie Unruh, are a great team both in the operating room and taking care of patients in the clinic setting. Personal touch and compassion make their surgical practice stand out.
Julie Unruh, NP
Julie has been caring for bariatric and advanced minimally invasive surgery patients for years. Julie worked at Naval Medical Center, San Diego prior to moving to Colorado Springs. She received her registered nurse first assistant training at UCLA. She has been Dr Wilcox's First Assist in Surgery since 2014, and assists in all of his procedures.
Julie is committed to excellent patient care in all aspects of the patient experience. She is both the bariatric coordinator and LINX reflux management system coordinator. Julie provides compassionate care for all of our patients.
